[So there's one of two possibilities here, and one of them is that this is the afterlife — which, if that's the case, says a lot about the afterlife and not in a particularly good way — but the other is that he's not actually dead, and of the two, Jake's frankly not sure which is actually worse.
And yet, here he is. Whole, alive. Jake the general, Jake the hero, Jake the teenager who never got to be normal because he was too busy waging a covert war against an alien menace that threatened to enslave humanity. Jake, who saved billions by killing millions, and who in the end couldn't even manage to keep alive his own handful of people who meant something to him.
...So yeah. Hard to say which of the two outcomes is worse, all told.
But the fact of the matter is, for better or for worse, he's here right now: standing on a street corner like any other guy, vaguely disoriented, unobtrusive. No one's run screaming to take his picture yet. No one's run screaming to try to kill him, either, which is an improvement.
Well. Sooner or later he's going to have to get to the bottom of this, he supposes.
She's been here a while, in this city that looks just enough like Tokyo for Misa to feel comfortable enough with what's going on, and it's a strange enough place but it's not like Misa has no idea how to deal with unfamiliar places - she's moved across the country to seek out Kira before, she knows how it feels.
But no. Even if she's dead, Misa knows. Misa knows that this isn't the afterlife, but it's some strange place that doesn't make quite that much sense. Death Note users don't get to heaven or hell, but they go to mu, Rem had explained to her, once upon a time, and Misa hadn't really understood that whole deal back then. She still doesn't quite understand it, except that this is where she's apparently at now.
She rounds the corner, distracted by humming a tune of one of her songs, the heels of her boots clicking on the concrete sidewalk. Misa's not really looking at where she's going, and when she collides into Jake, it's a full on collision that's enough to make her step back a bit to instinctively not fall flat on her butt. ]
Ah! [ It takes her a couple of seconds to maintain her balance on her heels, before she's looking up at him, wide eyed and surprised. He's new. She's never seen him around before, and she's been walking this route for a while now. ] Are you alright?! I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going...
[...Well. Okay, sure, it's not every day that a girl quite literally walks straight into him, but that's also more human contact than he's invited for himself in the past year and a half, so here we are. It's nice to see that it's still instinct to reach and try to steady her while she teeters, despite never actually properly making contact. There's something metaphorical about that, probably — Jake with his hands out, ready to catch us when we fall but never willing to reach further than that before we do.
...Or something. He's got a lot of time these days to come up with bullshit ways of spinning perceptions about the objective realities laid out in front of him.
Speaking of objective realities, here's a girl. She's blonde, because of course she is. She looks like a model, because of course she does.
And she's waiting for him to say something, so whatever it is he comes up with, hopefully it won't be too awfully stupid.]
...Yeah, I guess I am.
[Wait — he didn't indicate to her whether he meant that to answer her question about being all right or the one about being lost. Oops. God.]
Uh. Lost, I mean. I'm fine, too, but I'm definitely lost. Why, are you...uh. From around here?
[ At least he attempts to help her, which is much more than most people would have done. Misa dusts off imaginary dirt off her skirt and fixes him a winning smile, which is probably more confusing to him than anything - he definitely looks confused enough right now, awkward and unsure (nothing like Light's confidence and charisma, but then again no one could ever compare to Light).
He's a boy. He looks young. And he's just confirmed that he's completely lost.
The poor thing doesn't know what's coming to him. ]
Mm! Misa's been here for a while. [ Her laughter is soft, girlish, embarrassed. Misa's gotten it down to a kind of art form - it's the kind of laughter that made so many people fall in love with her on screen and in person, too. ]
This is a new place for you, right? Did you want to go somewhere?
[ She's always been a curious person. And she's met people from other places who say that this place doesn't look like Tokyo, looks nothing like their homeland. Maybe this boy will be one of them. ]
A Jamjar First Meeting, Probably

Might as well start looking around.]
